At this event The Manifest Nest will be providing some lovely herbal tea to share, while discussing the benefits of incorporating herbal teas into our everyday lives, and the benefits of doing so in a mindful way.

Join Constance Frankenberg and Heather Sheppard, herbalist at The Manifest Nest, for a bring your own picnic lunch, open labyrinth walk, and information on herbal tea.

Bring your lunch and join other interested members of the Omnisara labyrinth community as they enjoy a day of exploring herbal tea, good conversation, and a relaxed meal together.

Aphrodisiac Tea – Perfect for that Special Someone!

Today I will be at the Midweek Market in Atlantic Beach with free samples of my lovely Aphrodisiac Tea. I’ll be there from 3-6p.

This tea blend is a mix of lovely herbs to increase vitality and set the mood.

Oats, both oatstraw and oat tops, are both a nutritive tonic, increasing vitality body, mind and spirit, and a strong sexual tonic for both men and women.

Damiana has a long standing reputation as an aphrodisiac. It is known to increase blood flow to the loins which can benefit both men and women. It is also useful as an aphrodisiac when a lack of interest is caused by anxiety and depression.

Ashwagandha Root is known to improve energy. It is prized for its ability to normalize the bodies sex hormones and has been known to increase fertility.

Hibiscus has many health benefits, specifically its full of antioxidants and vitamin C, supports upper respiratory health and is a useful circulatory and heart tonic. In this blend it adds a beautiful pink color and tart flavor.

Lastly we have Ginger. Ginger is used for it warming medicinal qualities, increasing blood flow, warming the body from the inside out, and as a sexual tonic as it also increases blood flow to the loins. It is also used for its spicy flavor.

There’s still room in this Saturday’s Making Elderberry Syrup Class!

In this class we will be making our own Elderberry Syrup.

Elderberry Syrup is one of the most esteemed cold and flu remedies in herbal medicine.

Elderberries are known for their fabulous immune-enhancing properties. They are also antiviral and have been known to reduce the duration of flu symptoms to mere days. They are also excellent at clearing mucus from the sinuses and reducing inflammation in the respiratory system.

Elder flowers are an excellent diaphoretic, meaning they help induce sweating, which helps the body reduce fevers.

Combined with raw, local honey and other excellent immune-enhancing, anti-viral, warming and calming herbs like Echinacea, Ginger, Cloves and Chamomile you can make an excellent syrup that even the most finicky people in your life will willingly take.

In this class you will make a 4oz bottle of Elderberry Syrup from start to finish, like the one pictured above. You will learn the medicinal properties of the herbs you will use. As well as, have a basic understanding of how to make medicinal syrups that are honey based, which can be applied to other medicinal syrups such as cough syrup, hibiscus or ginger syrups. You will also leave with a booklet that contains the Elderberry Syrup recipe and everything else you learned in the class for future reference.

My husband and I are in the latest edition of Edible Northeast Florida Magazine!! And we’re so excited!!

Yesterday, we got our copy of Edible Northeast Florida Magazine to see that we made the cut! We had been contacted by them in December to do a photoshoot on backyard chickens, and were excited to see how our little urban homestead and our beautiful hens would be portrayed!

Well, it came out lovely! We are so excited to be representing sustainable, backyard, local food systems in our community. And I love that my husband, Lang, grabbed the pitchfork for a modern take on the famous “American Gothic.”

All the ladies, except Marigold, got a cameo. They’ve been well rewarded for their modeling skills with grub worms, sunflower seeds and scratch!

At The Manifest Nest we do more than just herbs. We believe in sustainable health not just from herbal support, but from food as medicine.

Today, we will be at the Beaches Green Market with lots of lovely herbal support. After a few freezes we will not have any garden produce today, but we will have a fresh batch of Fire Cider Tonic and Fire Cider Tonic Especial, fresh batches of Immuni-Tea and Inner Peace Tea and lots of other goodies to keep you happy and well as the weather changes and our bodies adapt.

The Beaches Green Market is today, Saturday 1/20 from 2-5pm at Jarboe Park in Neptune Beach. We will have extra copies of Edible Northeast Florida as we always do, even when we aren’t in it, so come on by and say hello!

We’ve finally added some information here on our website about our fantastic Herbal Apothecary here in Atlantic Beach!

We offer over 100 different herbs! All of our herbs are sourced with not only the wellness of us humble humans, but also with the wellness of the plants and the earth in mind.

All the herbs we carry are Certified Organic when we can get them, many are Fair-Trade when appropriate. If they are not Certified Organic then they are Wild Harvested (with wild population’s health in mind) or Cultivated Without Chemicals. Many of our herbs are also Certified Kosher.

We sell all our herbs by the ounce. If you’d like to come by the Apothecary to get some herbs for your homemade remedies just give us a call, text or email to arrange a time.

September Hiatus at The Manifest Nest!

What a whirlwind Hurricane Irma has been. I hope that each and every one of you are healthy and well. I know that many of you either sustained some damage from the storm or know someone who has, my heart goes out to each and every one of you.

In the wake of Irma I am not going to have any events, classes or farmer’s markets until October! I apologize for any inconvenience that this may have for any of you, but please know that I am here at the Apothecary if anyone needs anything. 

I know that I have been feeling a bit emotionally taxed, stressed, and that my adrenals and immune system are both suffering because of it. I have a great supply of herbal needs at this time should you be feeling similar and need some herbal support.

I have my Restorative Tincture that is full of adaptogens to help the body deal with and overcome the side effects of stress. Both my husband and I have been taking this 2x a day and it has really helped.

I have both Fire Cider Tonic and Elderberry Syrup to help your body boost immunity and to fight off any cold or flu symptoms.

I have a few new products as well!

I have a Skin Bliss balm that is specific for rashes, eczema and psoriasis.

I also made a batch of Herbal Insect Repellent which is great for all the bugs that have been around after all this water and flooding. (And don’t forget my Anti-Itch Salve if the bugs have already gotten you.)

Again, I hope that all of you are recovering physically and emotionally from the storm, and if you can help your neighbors and friends as they recover, please do so.

Take time for yourself as well: get a massage, go to the chiropractor, watch a funny movie, get some ice cream that wasn’t lost in the power outage, and nourish your body with whole foods and herbs. Whatever soothes your soul do so.

Hurricane season is only half over, and even when it is not natural disasters at our door, the universe will send us challenges that help us to grow and expand. Sometimes, it is necessary to retreat inward in order to find the strength to grow and expand and that is ok too.
